The Atlanta Youth Empowerment Group had the pleasure of hosting Girl Scouts (Troop 6099) from Hiram, Georgia for Banking On Our Future programming today! Banking on Our Future classes are free of charge for schools and communities. The program is led by HOPE Corps volunteers who have undergone comprehensive training in financial literacy and teaching techniques. Our Banking On Our Future students are given the tools they need to take control of their financial futures – by learning about empowerment, responsibility, and hope.
As a former Girl Scout myself, I was extremely honored to give back to a group that I was once a part of. After the Banking On Our Future lesson, we toured the Martin Luther King Center. Troop Leader, Paula Mensah, and the Girl Scouts were overjoyed to take advantage of the living history that remains preserved in Atlanta, Georgia.
Soon after, the whole team experienced living history first-hand, by meeting United States Attorney General, Honorable Loretta Lynch. Ms. Lynch is the first African American woman to serve as an United States Attorney General; who also was a Girl Scout in her youth. We excitedly captured the memorable moment with a team selfie! (pictured above) Our girls left the HOPE Center on Saturday afternoon feeling financially dignified, and ready take on the world! Inspired is an understatement. The Atlanta Youth Empowerment Group is excited to have completed such a successful event, and honored to follow the path of greatness every day!
