By Jessica Washington, Youth Empowerment Group Manager

Operation HOPE had the pleasure of hosting a two-day Banking On Our Future event at Eddie J White K-8 Academy. The Youth Empowerment Group in Atlanta partnered with our tried and true HOPE Corps members, Bank Of America, and our newest crew of volunteers from Clayton County Library System. Together, we empowered approximately 880 students with financial literacy knowledge and skills. We had a variety of instructors from loan executives to library membership clerks and even some small business owners.

Everyone had a story to tell and was able to spread the message of financial dignity. Students took advantage of this opportunity by engaging in the discussions and asking real-world questions. Our volunteers were impressed by the students basic knowledge and desire to learn more. The staff at Eddie White Academy was so impressed with our crew, that they scheduled our planning meeting for the next semester.

We will also offer a HOPE Business In A Box Academy with the support of our new partners at Clayton County Library and local entrepreneurs. We are excited to have a successful group of young entrepreneur start-ups by next Spring.

HOPE Business In A Box Academies harness the economic energy of youth and bring positive business role models into underserved communities. The goal of the initiative is to reconnect the power of education to the power of aspiration, spurring local job creation, spiking local GDP growth, and therein insuring the future prosperity of our students and our nation. Learn more about HOPE Business In A Box Academies.
