ADM is a business plan competition designed to support the entrepreneurial spirit and resources of the U.S. based African diaspora community. It promotes economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa by facilitating diaspora direct investment in viable small and medium enterprises, providing matching grants to African diaspora members working in partnership with African-based enterprises
The business plan competition, held in 2009-2010, had the following results:
- More than 700 applications received in response to an open call for proposals;
- 58 finalists and their partners participated in a two-day Marketplace Event in Washington, D.C.;
- 14 winning businesses were awarded matching grants of up to $100,000 each; a total of $1.2 million of private equity was leveraged across seven sub-Saharan African countries.
