Operation HOPE South Africa Celebrates Nelson Mandela Day with 67 Minutes of Service

67 minutes is not a long time, but it is certainly enough to begin a journey of service to the community.  On July 18th, people worldwide celebrated Nelson Mandela’s birthday by devoting 67 minutes or more to volunteerism.  As part of this 67 minutes initiative, Operation HOPE and HOPE Corps volunteers visited Realogile High School in Alexandra  to implement BOOF in a Day.

130 students from 3 separate classes completed Banking on Our Future curriculum, during which they freely shared ideas about money and the importance of savings.  Puneet Dhamija, a HOPE volunteer, was especially thrilled at the opportunity to share his skills and knowledge with the learners, who had a very enthusiastic response to the lessons.

It was a true honor for Operation HOPE South Africa to give back to the children of this school as part of Mandela Day, and we hope to continue embodying this spirit of selfless service the other 364 days of the year as well.
