H.D. Woodson Senior High School students enjoyed a very special event on April 30th in celebration of Financial Literacy Month. The day started with an assembly in which Operation HOPE Founder & CEO, John Hope Bryant served as the keynote speaker.
Bryant shared a message on dignity and encouraged the high school students to soar like eagles by focusing on priorities. DC Council member Yvette Alexander, DC Office of Planning and Economic Development Chief-of-Staff (Brian Kenner) and Tony Johnson representing the Office of the State Superintendent of Education shared brief remarks as well. Woodson Alumni Terri Copeland (class of 79) and Arthur Slade (class of 87) were available for comments as well representing PNC and Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking respectively.
After the assembly, approximately 70 volunteers taught financial education in individual classrooms. The volunteers were from the following HOPE partner organizations:
|
BB&T Bank of Georgetown Bank on DC Capital One City First Dept. of Insurance, Securities & Banking (DISB) |
E*TRADE Fannie Mae FDIC FINRA George Washington University
|
HEW Federal Credit Union Industrial Bank PNC Bank State Bank of India SunTrust |
TD Bank US Dept. of Treasury-OCC Wells Fargo Women in Housing & Finance
|
Many thanks to DC Public School’s Office of Career & Technical Education (CTE) for sponsoring the continental breakfast for the volunteers and speakers. HOPE has partnered with the CTE office for the past four years in hosting such an event during Financial Literacy Month.
It was a special event indeed.
