More than 175 supporters, leaders and friends of Operation HOPE gathered at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, CA on November 15 for an evening reception focused on sharing updates about the organization’s activities, achievements and challenges in 2010-2011.
The event, titled “An Evening of HOPE,” was held on the eve of Operation HOPE’s Annual Strategic Board Retreat–a day-long meeting of members from the organization’s national board of directors that reviewed HOPE’s activities throughout the year and focused on long-term planning for 2012.
During the reception, HOPE senior staffers Lance Triggs and Mary Hagerty Ersham entertained attendees with stories and introduced individuals from HOPE’s top performing portfolios. HOPE Corps volunteer Monique Jimmerson of KPMG, LLC, intern Carlos Prado and HOPE Center client, Rodd Amos, each moved the audience giving their own personal history with HOPE’s empowerment movement. During the evening guests were also treated to HOPE’s latest inspiring video profile in addition to hearing about the financial highlights from HOPE President Bill Walbrecher.
The reception rounded out with heartfelt remarks by Chairman John Hope Bryant, chronicling 20 years of activism and why the struggle for “silver rights” he started in 1992 is more relevant today than ever. Concluding the annual board retreat was a groundbreaking conversation on leadership and jobs between Gallup, Inc. CEO Jim Clifton and Civil Rights Legend Ambassador Andrew Young on November 16.
Clifton recently published an important book titled, “The Coming Jobs War,” which every leader in America should read. Gallup and Operation HOPE recently launched a first ever national research poll on youth financial literacy and youth economic energy, called the Gallup-HOPE Index. Gallup has made a 100-year commitment to publish this annual poll around youth economic energy in America.
